One of the biggest privileges of being in a community as amazing as Norman is the opportunity for our team to give back to the friends we love so much. Throughout 2018, we were able to continue supporting our community through meaningful partnerships with a handful of organizations making a difference in the area.
Through our partnership with the Oklahoma Blood Institute, we received nearly 450 donations at the three blood drives we hosted throughout the year. These donations played a direct role in saving more than 1,300 lives across the state of Oklahoma!
“Riverwind’s support provides hope, healing and comfort for those patients and their loved ones,” said Kaycie Craig, senior account manager with OBI. “We are so grateful for the continued partnership with Riverwind Casino.”
On Valentine’s Day, a few of our team members stopped by the Meals on Wheels distribution center with a few treats to thank the nonprofit’s volunteers in person. We’ve been a partner in the Meals on Wheels “Adopt-A-Route” program since 2014.
“The partnership with Riverwind Casino is a very valued resource for Meals on Wheels. Their support allows us to serve the ill, disabled and seniors in need,” said Lynn Haynes, executive director of Meals on Wheels of Norman. “In 2017, we experienced a growth of nearly 15% in the number of meals served. The continued support from Riverwind Casino helps us to face an ever-growing senior population.”
More recently, we supported Meals on Wheels with a sponsorship of its annual golf tournament and purchasing 60 poinsettias from its annual sale to place around the casino floor during the holidays.
Charity Golf Tournament
Each summer, we host a golf tournament to raise money for two local nonprofit organizations that are near and dear to our hearts, the Cavett Kids Foundation and Norman Public Schools Foundation. This August, we raised more than $55,000 for the two groups.
One of the newest features to our casino floor is donation kiosks, allowing patrons to cash out or donate part of their winnings to charitable causes. In 2018, more than $39,000 was raised through the kiosks for a number of organizations, including Marine Toys for Tots Foundation, the Military Warriors Support Foundation and the Regional Food Bank of Oklahoma.
As part of our partnership with the Norman Public Schools Foundation, a few members of our team visited two local elementary schools to shadow individuals that educate our next generation. Our team was impressed with what they saw, especially the impact that grants from NPSF have played in shaping the schools.
During this season of giving and thanks, we are thankful for the opportunity to serve these organizations as they help our community grow stronger each day.
