Casino Lingo 101 – Craps

Casino Lingo 101 – Craps

The frenzy of bets, the whoops and hollers, the roll of the dice…

That’s right, Craps is coming to Riverwind Casino! Known as one of the most exciting games in the casino, Craps is a game of chance based on the simple roll of the dice. Here’s a quick guide to get you familiar with some important lingo that will get you on your way to winning at Craps!

CRAPS
Not only is craps the name of the game, but it is also the name of rolling a 2, 3 or 12 at any time.

COME-OUT ROLL
The come-out roll is the initial roll of the dice during one’s turn.

DON’T COME BET
A don’t pass bet made after the initial roll establishes a point. It is like a come bet, but against the number, you want a 7 to roll.

DON’T PASS BET
A bet that the shooter won’t make his point. This bet must be placed before the point is established.

PASS LINE
The Pass Line allows you to bet on the prospect of rolling a 7 or 11 on the come-out roll. If either of those numbers are rolled, your bet wins at a payout of 1:1. If a 2, 3 or 12 is rolled, then you lose. If any other number is rolled, that number becomes the point value and your pass line bet will be going for that number.

FIELD
The field is a bet that the next roll will be a 2, 3, 4, 9, 10, 11 or 12.

HARD WAY
A bet on 4, 6, 8 or 10 that wins only if the dice roll as pairs. These are long-shot bets that pay out big.

ODDS
An additional bet made in addition to the initial pass line bet.

POINT
The value that establishes the number from the come-out roll.

RACK
The section of the table where you keep your chips.

SHOOTER
The individual around the table rolling the dice.

STICKMAN
The stick-wielding dealer that pushes the dice to the shooter.
