Showplace Theatre was hopping on Saturday night. Wade Bowen was the reason.
When the lights went down and Bowen took the stage, the 1500-seat venue was quickly transformed into the neighborhood watering hole.
Bowen set the tone at the beginning of the night by making a simple request: “Smile and enjoy yourself!” And the audience did, singing along to his own tunes like “Trouble” and “Saturday Night.” For the finale, Bowen did a cover of “Daydream Believer.”
One of the best parts of the night for me, however, came prior to the concert. I was in the right place at the right time and got to meet the Red Dirt star. With a strong handshake and a gentle demeanor, Wade Bowen won me over before he ever took the stage. We chatted about how he had performed at Riverwind before – it was during his Acoustic Tour with Randy Rogers last summer – and that he really loved the audience that had come out that evening. I guess it is no wonder that he was able to bring that familiar feeling to the Showplace Theatre by simply taking the stage. With a sweet smile, he went back to his dressing room to finish warming up for the concert.
