To help you get to know one of our wonderful casino hosts, we’d like to share a Q&A with Nathaniel K.
Thanks for sitting down to chat with us, Nathaniel! Starting off, describe your role here at Riverwind:
I have many roles at Riverwind. My job as a casino host means I’m available 24 hours a day for my patrons. I make sure the patrons have the best seats for upcoming concerts, they have a hotel room ready for them when they come in and can enjoy a meal while they are here. They can also enjoy the local sporting events that Norman and Oklahoma City have to offer. As a host, we also help out other departments such as the promotions team, the Showplace Theatre and even the valet if called upon. I also manage booking rooms for our hotel groups and entertainment rooms for our concerts.
It sounds like you wear a lot of hats! How did you get into this position? Was it something you always wanted to do or was it something that found you?
I started at Riverwind Casino as a cage cashier. When the Riverwind Hotel opened, I moved over as a Riverwind VIP Hotel Representative. My background is in hospitality, so I was doing that until a Casino Host position became available. I have been a Casino Host here for two years.
What does a typical day in the life of a host look like?
I come into work every morning and the first thing I do is catch up on communications from the night before, taking care of those items before I start the rest of my day. Then I move on to upgrading our remaining hotel rooms available for that evening. Once that has happened, I then get to walk the floor and take care of our patrons. I love chatting with our patrons. I check in with Player Services and give them breaks if needed, and I can usually be seen handing out our Bedré Chocolate to patrons on the floor as well.
What is your favorite thing about Riverwind?
I love seeing all of the jackpots that we pay out every day and I love seeing how many of our patrons keep coming back!
Outside of work, can you tell us a few fun facts about yourself? Any interesting hobbies?
I am an avid sports fan. Growing up in San Diego made me become a huge fan of the San Diego Padres, the beach and Mexican food. I love to take cruises and my co-workers make fun of me because all of the vacations I take. I love the University of Michigan. GO BLUE!
