Get to Know Our Casino Hosts: David R.

Get to Know Our Casino Hosts: David R.

Over the last few weeks, we’ve been introducing you to some of our terrific team members here at Riverwind Casino. We recently sat down with one of our casino hosts, David R., a dog-loving film fanatic that is a self-professed encyclopedia of knowledge, especially in pop culture!

Thanks for sitting down with us today, David! Would you start off by describing your role as a host here at Riverwind?
I’ve been with Riverwind since before we opened our doors, and I take a lot of pride in that. I was given the nickname “Super Dave” because of the level of customer service I brought to the Chickasaw Nation when I was first hired and do my best to be that superhero to our patrons!

That’s great – Super Dave! How did you get into this role? Was it something you always wanted to do or was it something that found you?
Prior to joining this team, I spent more than 12 years in management at Toys R Us and was highly involved in community activities and working with special needs children to familiarize them with the workplace. When I began with the Chickasaw Nation, I spent some time over at Goldsby Gaming Center and was promoted to shift lead in a matter of weeks. I planned on working as a Players Club shift supervisor once Riverwind opened its doors, but I was asked to be a host just a few weeks after we opened. Our marketing team noticed my work ethic and reputation as Super Dave!

My father taught me to get out of the shadows and make your mark, so that’s what I did! Since then, I’ve been pleased with the things I’ve learned and the opportunities I’ve had along the way.

It sounds like you’ve had an exciting road to this position! So, what does a typical day in the life of a host look like?
There is no typical day as a host…every day is so different! One day we might host a group at a Thunder basketball game or assist with a concert. Ultimately, we are the ambassadors to the casino and our duty is to keep our guests happy. We do our best to keep the hotel filled and offer complimentary concert tickets or dining vouchers to our eligible patrons.

Sounds like Super Dave is a busy man! What’s your favorite thing about Riverwind?
The people…simple as that! We have great employees and as a host I get to interact with them (and all the people that walk in our doors) every day! I love being involved when a guest wins a jackpot or has their name called to win a prize during a promotion and the excitement and joy they have by being here. We’re part of a big family!

What’s been your favorite show that you’ve seen at the Showplace Theatre?
Penn and Teller! They were just here recently and it’s astounding to see them perform and see their act with your own eyes!

Thanks so much to Dave for sitting down with us and allowing us to get to know you a little better! Do you have any questions for Super Dave? Tweet us with your question or stop by and introduce yourself. He’d love to see you!
