What to Know When You Hit a Jackpot at Riverwind

What to Know When You Hit a Jackpot at Riverwind

It’s a beautiful day at Riverwind Casino. You sit down at your favorite machine for some fun gaming action. Suddenly, everything changes. The flashing lights and ringing bells can only mean one thing. You’ve hit the jackpot and you’re a Riverwinner!

So, what happens next? How do you get paid? How does a floor attendant know that you’ve won a jackpot?

Don’t worry, because we’ve got all the answers right here.

The first thing you need to know is that there are three different types of jackpots: normal, in-house progressive and wide-area progressive (WAP).

What qualifies as a jackpot?
We consider a jackpot any single win that pays out $1,200 or more. This August, we paid out $16.6 million to more than 6,700 patrons!

What’s the first step to take after you hit a jackpot?
Celebrate, of course! It’s going to be an exciting moment for you and those around you. But after your initial reaction, you need to get a few things ready. For United States citizens and permanent residents, you’ll need to present an acceptable valid photo ID and social security verification. If you don’t have social security verification, you’ll have the option to complete a W-9 form. Foreign winners from a non-sanctioned country must present an acceptable photo ID and may be subject to tax withholdings. Acceptable forms of ID include:

  • U.S. state or territory issued driver’s license (DL) or ID card with the state or territory seal
  • Passport book or card
  • ID card issued by federal, state or local U.S. government agencies
  • S. Coast Guard Merchant Mariner card
  • Tribal citizenship card
  • S. Military ID
  • Concealed weapon license
  • Permanent resident card or resident alien card
  • Alien registration receipt card
  • Reentry permit
  • Certificate of naturalization with photograph

A floor attendant will ask you a few basic questions to help fill out tax paperwork and will ask you if you would like to participate in a Riverwinner photo opportunity. If you agree, we’ll have you sign a publicity release form so we can feature you on our social media accounts!

How do we know if you hit a jackpot?
Floor attendants have mobile devices that alert them of calls in their specific area. Jackpot calls are flagged in the system as high priority by default, so our team sees it and springs into action. Our team works together on the floor and communicates via handheld radio to get someone over to you as soon as possible.

Is there a limit on the dollar amount you can take home?
No, but depending on the amount (usually greater than $50,000), a check may be encouraged that can be picked up the following business day. Large jackpots, such as wide area progressives, require verification from the vendor and gaming commission, which might delay your payout. If you’re not comfortable with carrying that much cash, we are more than happy to provide an escort to walk you to your vehicle.

Do you have any more questions about what happens when you hit a jackpot? Send us a message on Facebook, Twitter or Instagram and be on the lookout for new jackpot photos all the time! Until next time, we hope to see you enjoying one of our more than 2,800 electronic games and wish you the best luck in becoming our next Riverwinner!
